Square Enix has revealed more details about “Kingdom Hearts 3” over the weekend. Find out more below.

New details about the highly anticipated installment in the “Final Fantasy” and Disney crossover role-playing game series, “Kingdom Hearts 3,” were divulged over the weekend. So many interesting things about the game have been revealed, including information on when can fans expect it to hit the market.

Nintendo Switch Version

Square Enix has been developing “Kingdom Hearts 3” for years now. While it’s already known that the game is coming to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, there has been no confirmation regarding a Nintendo Switch version. Fortunately, director Tetsuya Nomura has set the record straight in an interview with IGN at D23 Expo.

Nomura has subtly confirmed that the game will come to the Nintendo Switch once they are done with the version for the PS4 and Xbox One. However, it will clearly take some time before they can do that. “The Nintendo Switch is definitely a very interesting piece of hardware, but if we lightly say, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll be on the Nintendo Switch,’ I’m sure people will come back and say, ‘But what about the PS4 and Xbox One? We want them out first. Don’t focus on other platforms,’” Nomura said.

“So for now, we want to focus on what platforms we’ve already announced we’re going to be releasing ’Kingdom Hearts III‘ on. And so after, perhaps, maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities,” he added.

Release Date

Before, many were wondering as to when “Kingdom Hearts 3” will likely arrive. Last Saturday, Square Enix announced what everyone’s eager to know. The next installment in the franchise is apparently set for release sometime in 2018. Unfortunately, no specific release date was announced by its developer.

New Characters

Another thing that fans should know about “Kingdom Hearts 3” is the fact that it will feature a “Toy Story”-inspired world. Based on the new trailer for the game, Sora, Donald and Goofy will meet “Toy Story” characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear and others amid an adventure that will take place following the disappearance of Andy and other toys.

“At long last, we are excited to open up the Kingdom Hearts universe to include the world of Disney Pixar's Toy Story,” Nomura was quoted as saying by Eurogamer. “The narrative will be an original story exclusive to ‘Kingdom Hearts 3,’ and the gameplay will feel characteristic of the Toy Story style and aesthetic.”

Gameplay

The new D23 trailer of the upcoming game shows that its gameplay involves fighting Heartless enemies in the “Toy Story” world. To be specific, the characters will have to combat several enemies while inside Andy’s room and his garden; they will also be tasked to search for the Galaxy Toys.

“Kingdom Hearts 3” will come nearly 13 years since the second installment in the video game series was released. The game is said to feature ultra-polished visuals and a more engaging battle system, according to The Verge. It is currently in development for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gaming consoles.
