While National Doughnut Day 2013 may have come and gone, many doughnut lovers are using what they saw last week as influences for their own delicious creations. Case in point, the Krispy Kreme Sloppy Joe sandwich.

The latest and greatest doughnut sandwich is currently the hot topic of foodie conversation after Chef "Chicken" Charlie Boghosian, also known as California's "deep-fry king," posted a picture of a Krispy Kreme Sloppy Joe on his Facebook page. The picture was accompanied by a message that indicated the sandwich would be available for purchase at the Chicken Charlie’s stand at the San Diego County Fair.

As the photo does appear with a Krispy Kreme logo, there is no indication that Krispy Kreme, which is based in Winston-Salem, N.C., is associated with the production and/or sale of the product.

And while the epic meal would seem like some sort of food revelation to the untrained eye, Dunkin' Donuts on Friday did unveil its new Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich, which features bacon slices and a pepper fried egg sandwiched between a glazed doughnut.

The two sandwiches are the first of what seems to be a growing trend among doughnut lovers: replacing the bread or bun with a sliced doughnut.
