"Bridesmaids” star Kristen Wiig will officially appear in the sequel to "Anchorman.”

It’s been nearly eight years since the film premiered in theaters, and although the funny lady has been tied to the film for months, the news wasn't official until director Adam McKay confirmed it via Twitter on Monday.

"Just found out Kristen Wiig officially on board for Anchorman 2. Cannonball!" he said.

"Anchorman" co-star Christina Applegate (who plays Ron Burgundy's "lady love") verified the news with a tweet of her own.

"woohoo! That's so great," the actress responded to the director’s post. She later joked, "So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for anchorman2. Going 2 b best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made."

"Anchorman: The Legend Continues" will reunite the stars of the original cast: Ferrell, Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner.

According to MTV News, Wiig, who is an "SNL” alum like Ferrell, will reportedly play the love interest of Carell's mentally deficient character, who inexplicably loves lamps.

There is no word yet whether she will be a major character or just have a cameo appearance.

Last spring Ferrell got into the character of Ron Burgundy and delivered the news that there would be a sequel to "Anchorman” on "Conan.”

"I want to announce this to everyone here in the Americas," he interrupted. "To my friends, in Spain, Turkey and the U.K., including England ... as of 0900 Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel for 'Anchorman.' It is official. There will be a sequel to 'Anchorman.' "

The Los Angeles Times reported the Judd Apatow-produced film would hit theaters on Dec. 20.
