“Laguna Beach” alum and fashion designer Kristin Cavallari has spilled the beans on her marriage status with Jay Cutler. She admitted that what’s making their relationship work is the “conscious effort” they put into maintaining it.

On Friday, Cavallari exclusively opened up to Us Weekly about her married life and how she and Cutler have made things work for them. “Honestly, I think communication and it’s so much easier said than done. I know that [we] have to make a conscious effort. You have to put in work for a relationship,” the 30-year-old Hollywood personality said.

For Cavallari, one should never be “complacent” and “lazy” when it comes to his or her marriage. “You have to still value and appreciate the other person. I think that when you don’t that’s when you start to get in trouble,” she added.

Cavallari then went on to reveal that just like every other husband and wife out there, they too have their fair share of problems. “We have our issues. Our relationship isn’t perfect,” she said. “But we love each other and we work on it and we make a conscious choice to work on the relationship and I think that that’s what you just have to do.”

It appears Cavallari is now more optimistic about her marriage with the former Chicago Bears quarterback. Cavallari had admitted in the past that she and her husband of four years have attended couple’s counseling amid their rocky relationship, according to Today. She even claimed that it was all thanks to couples therapy that her marriage was saved.

“We have a lot of great tools that we learned from therapy and I think that was the most beneficial part. Just learning how to communicate and walking away with some great tools, which we’ll always be able to use,” Cavallari said last year.

Cavallari and Cutler tied the knot in 2013. They have three kids: Camden, 4, Jaxon, 3, and Saylor, 19 months. Speaking of her children and her mommy duties, Cavallari has shared how proud she is of the way she raised her kids with Cutler. “I’m very comfortable with being a mom, and I’m proud of the way we’ve raised our kids,” she was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
