For people who want to do more than just barbeque and booze this Labor Day Weekend, shopping can be a good alternative. Labor Day Weekend has been deemed the “Black Friday" of car sales, driven mainly by rebates, year-end model closeouts and financing offers. Dealers typically take advantage of the long weekend to close out summer sales and make room for the next model year, which officially begins on Oct. 1.

"Although manufacturers are poised to replace these vehicles with new-generation models, they still offer excellent value and performance," said Phillip Reed, a consumer-advice editor, in a statement, USA Today reported. "Shoppers looking for the best possible deal on a new car right now would be smart to consider the savings these vehicles offer before they weigh any other options."

There are many different options with great deals, from hybrids to luxury cars, being offered this year. As fall goes on, discounts are likely to become deeper and dealers will be more open to negotiation, but there will be less inventory to choose from, Reed said, according to MarketWatch.

“This year, what really stands out is that really popular cars are seeing deep discounts,” said Reed, MarketWatch reported. “The selection of cars is definitely better.”
