Lady Gaga may soon star in a remake of the Hollywood classic “A Star Is Born” with Bradley Cooper.
The multi-awarded singer is slated to replace Beyoncé in the upcoming “A Star Is Born” remake. Lady Gaga is in negotiations to star opposite Cooper in the said film, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The movie remake will also mark the “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor’s directorial debut.
The film is a well-loved Hollywood movie that has seen several remakes over the decades. The original movie, released in 1937, starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. Gaynor portrayed an aspiring young actress, while March plays a movie star who helps Gaynor’s character make it big in Hollywood despite the challenges in his own career. “A Star Is Born” has already been remade two times, the first in 1954 featuring James Mason and Judy Garland. The second remake was released in 1976 that starred Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand.
Lady Gaga has reportedly completed screen tests for Warner Bros. and has even impressed studio executives with her acting, as indicated in the same report. If the singer decides to join the “A Star Is Born” cast, the project will mark the fourth movie project that Lady Gaga has participated in. The “Born this Way” crooner previously appeared in “Muppets Most Wanted,” “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,” as well as “Machete Kills.” She also recently wowed TV viewers and critics with her role in the series “American Horror Story: Hotel.”
Meanwhile, the upcoming third remake of “A Star is Born” has been in the works for several years at Warner Bros. Studios. Hollywood veteran Clint Eastwood was previously attached to direct the film. The singer Beyonce was also considered for a lead role in the said film, Deadline reported. However, the participation of both Eastwood and Beyonce did not push through.
Apart from directing and starring in the “A Star is Born” remake, Cooper is also producing the film alongside Todd Phillips and Bill Gerber, as stated in the same report. The production cost of the film is said to around $30 million.
The expected release date for “A Star is Born” remake has yet to be announced.
