Christine Lagarde, French Finance Minister emerged as the next IMF head on Thursday after Dominique Strauss-Kahn resigned and vowed to fight charges of sexually assaulting a hotel maid.

Timothy Geither, U.S. Treasury Secretary said, “We want to see an open process that leads to a prompt succession for the Fund’s new managing director.”

Accepting Lagarde would be more favorable for the developing nations as a replacement after Europe’s long hold on the position.
Thirty two out of fifty six people voted for Lagarde to take the seat apart from the three European Economic giants, France, Germany and Britain.
