Lagos Plane Crash Kills All 153 Passengers; Possibly More Casualties On The Ground

All passengers on board a plane that crashed in Lagos, Nigeria's largest city, are dead, authorities confirmed Sunday.

Harold Denuren, of Nigeria's Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the deaths of the 153 passengers on Dana Air with the Associated Press.

Nigerian officials believe more casualties will be counted on the ground, but couldn't provide a figure at this time.

The Lagos state government said the flight was heading to Lagos from Abuja, the capital, when it crashed in a densely populated neighborhood close to the airport. The plane burst into flames when it hit a building in the Agege suburb of the city, witnesses told the media.

Approximately 2.3 million passengers passed through Lagos' international airport in 2009, according to the AP.
