LAPD Searching for Clues in Hollywood Hills Severed-Head Case

The Los Angeles Police Department is searching the Hollywood Hills for evidence Wednesday, after a severed head in a bag was found Tuesday afternoon.

The discovery was made at approximately 2:30 p.m. Tuesday by professional dog walkers on the 3200 block of Canyon Drive, near a popular hiking trail and not far from the Hollywood sign. After two of the dogs began playing with an object in a bag, the dog walkers investigated and found that the bag contained a severed head. Park Rangers were then notified.

Police said that the head did not appear to have been n the area long.

Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Officer Sara Faden told TheWrap that the victim appears to be a male between 30 and 40 years old, and of unkown ethnicity.

Los Angeles Police Department robbery-homicide detectives are handling the investigation, while the Los Angeles coroner's office will take the lead in determining the victim's identity and ethnicity.

After suspending their investigation Tuesday night, police resumed their search for clues at daybreak Wednesday. Officer Faden told TheWrap that police are employing resources such as cadaver dogs and bloodhounds to seek and further remains -- and according to the Los Angeles Times, sometime Wednesday morning police found a severed hand in the brush about 50 yards from where the head was discovered, though the hand was not in a bag.

Faden said that the area does not have a heavy residential population.
