Tim Allen’s hit sitcom, “Last Man Standing,” may be revived by CMT.

In May, ABC decided to cancel “Last Man Standing” after six seasons, but just a month later, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that CMT is in preliminary talks to revive the show. Since production is just in the beginning stages, it still cannot be guaranteed that the network will close a deal with the people behind the sitcom. TV Line also noted that CMT has to be able to figure out a way to fund “Last Man Standing” within its cable budget if they want to revive it.

On the other hand, it is also possible that CMT will indeed become the new home for Allen’s show. After all, the network did the same thing for ABC’s “Nashville.” After the network canceled the Connie Britton-starrer, CMT picked it up for Season 5. “Nashville” also instantly became CMT’s highest-rated original scripted series as of late.

“Last Man Standing” centered on Allen’s character, Mike Baxter, a conservative dad in a house full of women. The cancellation of the series triggered online talks about ABC potentially silencing the voices of conservatives in a post-Trump world. Following its cancellation, fans of Allen and the sitcom started online petitions in an attempt to get ABC to consider saving it. Some fans also claimed that they will boycott the network if they don’t renew “Last Man Standing” for Season 7.

Lead star Allen also expressed his shock over the network’s decision to cancel his show. On his Twitter account, the actor said that he was blindsided by the network. As such, it may be impossible for Allen to work with ABC again in case they decided to reverse their cancellation decision.

Meanwhile, “Last Man Standing” occupied the Friday, 8 p.m. time slot for ABC. The sitcom averaged 6.4 million viewers and a 1.1 demo rating among audiences aged between 18 and 49. The final episode for Season 6 aired in March, which featured guest star Jay Leno as his character Joe. Leno also appeared in the Sept. 30 episode of “Last Man Standing” Season 6.
