Is Lady Gaga’s new song about ex-fiancé Taylor Kinney — or “American Horror Story” Season 6? The latest trailer for the FX anthology series features “Perfect Illusion.”

Shortly after Gaga released the single off of her upcoming fifth studio album, the official Facebook page for “American Horror Story” debuted a promo video mashing up all of the videos for the untitled sixth season. Gaga’s “Perfect Illusion” plays as all of the clips get sliced together for one massive teaser. The caption reads: “Has it all been a Perfect Illusion? The truth is revealed Wednesday.”

The chorus of the song features the lyrics: “It wasn’t love, it wasn’t love/ It was a perfect illusion/ Mistaken for love, it wasn’t love/ It was a perfect illusion.”

Lady Gaga made her debut in Season 5 of “American Horror Story” as Elizabeth AKA The Countess, a vampire-like creature who lived at the Hotel Cortez. She had the gift of eternity, but was forced to drink the blood of others to survive. The role won her the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film.

Gaga is signed on to appear in Season 6 of the series as well. However, details about her new role have yet to be announced. In fact, very few details in general about Season 6 have been revealed.

Despite the numerous trailers released, FX President John Landgraf confirmed at the Television Critics Association panel in August that only one promo video actually relates to the sixth season. The others are meant to throw off fans.

“We thought it would be fun to keep it a mystery,” he explained. “So we are.”

The truth about the theme of “American Horror Story” Season 6 will finally be revealed when episode 1 premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. EDT. Follow @AmandaTVScoop for more “American Horror Story” news.
