Platinum Games is developing “The Legend of Korra,” a third-person combat title based on the fantasy steampunk Nickelodeon TV series of the same name.

The Osaka, Japan-based independent game company also is behind 2009’s “Bayonetta,” 2013’s “Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance” and the coming “Bayonetta 2.”

One of the show’s writers, Tim Hendrick, is creating the story, which will take place between the second and third seasons of the television series. Players will take on the role of the Korra, who can use the Avatar’s fire, air, water and earth elements during combat to fight enemies such as Chi Blockers and Mecha Tanks. The television series is set in the fictional world of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” 70 years after the events of that series.

Korra is an Avatar, or a person who can bend and manipulate all four elements. There is only one Avatar in the TV series' fictional setting and he/she is responsible for maintaining peace and balance in the world.

The game will also launch on Nintendo’s 3DS sometime this year and will "focus on tactically maneuvering Korra and her allies on the battlefield."
