Lynda Carter as President Olivia Marsdin

Original Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter was initially set to appear in the “Legends of Tomorrow” episode of the “Invasion!” crossover event.

During a Q&A hosted by The CW, “Legends of Tomorrow” executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed to a group of reporters that Carter was supposed to play the role of Earth-1’s U.S. vice president who assumed the presidency after her predecessor was assassinated by the Dominators. But since Carter already plays Earth-38’s U.S. President Olivia Marsdin on “Supergirl,” Warner Bros. TV thought that it would be too confusing if Carter also ended up portraying Earth-1’s POTUS.

“In the original draft of the ‘Legends’ episode, [Carter] was the vice president who became the president,” Guggenheim said (via TV Insider). “And the studio had what we all considered to be a very fair note, which is it was a bit too confusing. You’ve get into the parallel earths of it all, but she’s not the president on our Earth, she’s the vice president and you know, in the midst of … time travel and aliens it just was — as Oliver (Stephen Amell) would put it — one sci-fi problem too much. And we thought, OK, if the studio is getting thrown by it, and confused, the audience might be too, so we took her out. Believe me, it was not for lack of wanting to.”

Carter made her debut as President Marsdin in Season 2, episode 3 of “Supergirl.” In the episode, titled “Welcome to Earth,” President Marsdin visited National City to sign her alien amnesty act, which allows aliens on Earth to come out of the shadows and live as full citizens.

Although it’s very likely that President Marsdin will appear on the show again, Carter told USA Today in October that she still doesn’t know when exactly she’s returning to the show.

“Fans better start pressuring them because I have not been (cast) in a subsequent episode,” Carter said at the time. “I’m thinking, ‘Well, when are you going to advance this thing?’ Because I’m getting busy!”

“Honestly, I just can’t wait until they send me new script for which the POTUS is again on the ‘Supergirl’ soundstage,” the 65-year-old actress said during a Facebook Live Q&A hours before the airing of her debut episode. “I can’t wait to see what they have in store for her. I can’t wait to do the next episode.”
