Johnathon Schaech is reprising his role as Jonah Hex in Season 3 of “Legends of Tomorrow.”

Schaech announced his return to the CW series during his recent interview with Inverse. “They pinned me for the beginning of the year,” the 48-year-old actor told the news outlet via phone. “I don’t know what we’re gonna do or how many episodes, but definitely Jonah Hex is going to be a part of Season 3.”

“They pin the actors to see if they’re available for certain dates,” the “Ray Donovan” alum explained, before revealing that he’s set to start filming in January. “That’s all I know right now.”

Schaech made his debut appearance as Hex in Season 1, episode 11, in which he was introduced as Rip Hunter’s (Arthur Darvill) old friend. Hex then showed up in Season 2, episode 6 where he faced off against his archenemy Quentin Turnbull (Jeff Fahey).

Schaech’s Season 3 return isn’t really a big surprise as his portrayal of Hex has been lauded by critics and fans. “He’s terrific. Johnathon is an amazing Jonah Hex,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Den of Geek in April 2016. “I would say [that it’s] very, very faithful to the comics incarnation with a touch [of] more sass, a little bit more attitude.”

“He’s great,” Guggenheim added of Schaech. “Watching his interactions with Rip are gold. They’re just so much fun. Johnathon and Arthur make a great team.”

“Legends of Tomorrow” is currently on winter hiatus. While the synopsis for the next episode (Season 3, episode 10) hasn’t been released yet, the trailer for the hour teases an exorcism by guest character John Constantine (Matt Ryan).

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last October, Guggenheim’s fellow executive producer Phil Klemmer said that Constantine’s appearance in the episode involves a lot of exciting things.

“Constantine’s appearance in episode 10 will involve the following: a revisiting of ‘Arrow’ Season 4 and the events following that season’s finale episode; a confrontation with this season’s Big Bad on ‘Legends’; some hot sex; and Damien Darhk (Neil McDonough), because how can you do an episode about dark magic and not have Damien Darhk?” Klemmer said. “More than anything, the episode promises to be scary as you know what — tonally it’s ‘The Exorcist’ meets ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.’ Demonic possession in a mental institution — what’s not to love?”

“Legends of Tomorrow” Season 3, episode 10 airs on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
