Lego announced “The Simpsons” will be getting an official set in 2014. While details are scant that has not stopped fans from speculating on what will be included and the announcement has even featured some controversy.

The announcement of “The Simpsons” Lego set was announced on Monday, reports the Associated Press. The special series will be available in stores in 2014 and Roar Rude Trangbaek, the company’s spokesman, declined further comment about the “The Simpsons” Lego set. According to Trangbaek the set will definitely “appeal to fans of 'The Simpsons' family” but offered no clues about what the series will feature from the iconic show.

“The Simpsons” has been on television for 22 years, notes AP, and has a wide array of characters and locations that would be ideal for a Lego treatment. Moe’s Tavern, the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, the Simpson Family Home, the Kwik-E-Mart and Springfield Elementary School are just a few of the more famous locations that could serve as a Lego set. Other options could serve as an ode to the rich history of “The Simpsons” including the Monorail, Barney’s Bowl-O-Rama, a statue of Jebediah Springfield or even the car Homer Simpson designed for Powell Motors, “The Homer.”

“The Simpsons” will join other properties including “Star Wars,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “Harry Potter” and superheroes from Marvel and DC Comics to get the Lego treatment. Some of the Lego properties have become videogames but that may not be the case with “The Simpsons” as the show has spawned several videogames of its own and Electronic Arts currently developing new games for mobile devices.

“The Simpsons” Lego set has created some controversy, notes Gizmodo’s Lego blog. On the Lego forums, some are calling for a protest or a petition to sign preventing “The Simpsons” Lego set to be released. The topic, with the title "SAY NO TO LEGO SIMPSONS!,” has many forum users saying the set is not age appropriate.
