Leslie Carter's sudden death on Tuesday, in upstate New York, is believed to be the result of an overdose, according to reports.

TMZ is reporting that prior to her death, Leslie Carter was battling an addiction to prescription medication and that family members believe it was an overdose that took the 25-year-old singer's life.

Sources told the celebrity news Web site that Carter, who was also a reality TV star, recently moved from Canada to upstate New York in order to live with her family while attempting to get rid of her addiction.

We're told family members had attempted to rid the home of any prescription medication -- including Xanax -- and were hopeful Leslie was on the road to recovery, TMZ reports. Sources also told the Web site that Leslie Carter's family members believed on the day she died that she could safely be left alone for an hour. They reportedly wanted to run some errands, and when they got home they saw that Leslie Carter was unconscious.

E! Online reports that her brother, Aaron, released a statement regarding his sister's death, noting that the family is spending time together, trying to deal with the private matter.

Aaron Carter recently announced that he was temporarily leaving the off-Broadway production of The Fantasticks. He thanked fans, friends and his The Fantasticks cast and crew for supporting him as the family deals with Leslie Carter's death.

I am with my family spending much needed time together as we deal with this private matter, Aaron Carter said. I look forward to returning to my Fantasticks' Family and performing the role of Matt for all my amazing fans. Again, I request privacy for my family and no further statements will be made at this time.

E! Online reports that an autopsy performed on Leslie Carter on Wednesday morning, show that there were no visible signs of trauma. Still, the Chautauqua County Coroner's Office is said to be awaiting a toxicology report to determine a cause of death.

Leslie Crater married her husband Mike Ashton in 2008 and gave birth to a daughter name Alyssa Jane Ashton last April.
