Cahill continues to help Riggs work through his personal issues in Season 2 of Fox’s “Lethal Weapon.”

In a recent interview with BuddyTV, executive producer Matt Miller revealed that Cahill (Jordana Brewster) and Riggs (Clayne Crawford) are going to spend “a lot of time together” in the new season as the viewers start to realize that the former Navy SEAL was emotionally broken long before his wife’s death,

“For her, it’s like when you’re curing someone with some trauma or something like that, you kind of always want to start at the beginning,” Miller said of how Cahill likes to help Riggs overcome his troubled past. “[But] he’s very reluctant to go back. He was reluctant to talk about [his wife] Miranda (Floriana Lima), so he’s even more reluctant to talk about some of the earlier stuff.”

As previously reported, that earlier stuff is Riggs’ childhood. “For those who have actually done some therapy, you end up spending a lot of time talking about your childhood. So what Cahill’s getting into with Riggs is really the good, juicy stuff that she was trying to help him overcome,” Miller told TVLine.

Interestingly, Miller teased that there are “nice things later on in the season” that they start to play with the pair. Does this mean that Riggs and Cahill’s friendship are turning into a romance?

“I don’t think they’re ever going to get together,” Crawford said of Riggs and Cahill in a recent interview with TV Insider. “But if they do, it’d be one of those things at the end of the season. I think the design of the relationship is to be that Mulder and Scully kinda thing [from ‘The X-Files’]. We play the hell out of that. We put music over it, she throws a smile, and it’s awesome.”

Whether or not Cahill eventually becomes Riggs’ lover, Crawford said that the psychologist remains a “support system” for his character. “Riggs has lots of devils on his shoulder. Cahill is the only angel, and she’s constantly in his ear,” the actor said.

An all-new episode of “Lethal Weapon” airs on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
