Thomas Lennon is set to reprise his role as Leo Getz in Season 2 of “Lethal Weapon.”

Executive producer Matt Miller confirmed to TVLine that the “Odd Couple” alum will appear “a few times” in the upcoming sophomore run of the Fox buddy cop series.

The idea to bring Lennon back came about soon after the 46-year-old actor finished filming his debut episode on the series. “I’ve spoken to Thomas about [him returning] and I would love, love, love for him to come back,” Miller told TV Insider last March. “I think he was amazing! So our plan is certainly to bring him back.”

Lennon, who made his first appearance as Getz in Season 1, episode 15, enjoyed his short stint on the show last season. “Working with the two of those guys [Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford] was an endless delight,” Lennon told Uproxx in February. “They’re so unbelievably funny, and also [have high] … level of dedication.”

“It was one of the most fun shows I’ve been on in years, if not longer, since doing my own show at least,” Lennon added at the time. “[So] I would love to [come back]. … The only trick is the production schedule, which is basically a movie every nine days. Almost. It’s very intense.”

The role of Getz was originated by Joe Pesci in the “Lethal Weapon” film series, and while Lennon admitted to CarterMatt that Pesci’s performance was difficult to match, it was actually one of the reasons why he agreed to play the role.

“Part of the reason why I took Leo Getz was just because I thought it would be really, really hard,” said Lennon, who didn’t immediately accept the role when it was offered to him. “About a week or so before we shot the episode, they reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in taking on the character for the TV show. My reaction was ‘Wow, that sounds really, really hard’ because Pesci’s performance is one of the most quotable movie roles of all time.”

“I rolled it around in my head a little bit and I liked the script,” he recalled. “[And] I came to them and I said ‘I can’t do an impression of Joe Pesci at all.’ I’m not that kind of weird little weirdo; I’m my own kind of weird little weirdo, you know? I asked if they were okay with a version of Leo Getz that was much closer to me than Joe Pesci, then I was certainly willing to give it a try. Then, we went from there!”
