Eman al-Obaidi
Bruises are seen on the face of Libyan woman Eman al-Obaidi as she cries at a hotel in Tripoli March 26, 2011. The weeping Libyan woman made a desperate plea for help on Saturday, slipping into the Tripoli hotel full of foreign journalists to show bruises and scars she said had been inflicted on her by Muammar Gaddafi's militiamen. As reporters gathered to hear her story, security guards grabbed the woman, bundled her into a car and drove her away following a brawl in which several journalists were beaten. Libyan Eman al-Obeidy, the alleged rape victim who grabbed worldwide media attention on March 26 after accusing Muammar Gaddafi's forces of gang-raping her, has come to the United States to stay for good.

Eman is excited to be in the United States and thanks Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and the U.S. government for granting aslyum.

Al-Obeidy spent 54 days in a U.N. High Commission for Refugees facility in Romania before arriving in New York late Wednesday night.

The Libyan refugee had stormed into a Tripoli hotel where international journalists were dining and publicly accused Gaddafi's men of beating and raping her, only to face opposition and be whisked away.
