Lil Phat, real name Melvin Vernell III, was found dead in his car in Atlanta after a shooting Thursday evening resulted in the death of the 19-year-old rapper from multiple gun wounds.

Police are searching for two suspects still at large who allegedly murdered 19-year-old Lil Phat Thursday night outside of the Northside Hospital in Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Spokesman Capt. Steve Rose said the suspects are two black males ... seen running from the location at the time of the shooting.

Lil Phat was found shot multiple times in a parked car and was taken to Northside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting around 6:40 p.m. Witnesses at the scene reported the suspects as a short male in a red shirt and a tall male dressed in black, running from the parking deck where the car was located.

Police did not disclose whether or not there was a motive for the fatal shooting of Lil Phat or if there was any connection to the hospital. WAFB reported Northside Hospital went on a lockdown after the shooting.

In a case like this where there's a potential shooting on the campus we lock down all the hospital facilities, no one is allowed to leave or enter the building, Northside spokesman Russ Davis told CBS News affiliate WAFB. Everybody needs to feel comfortable that they're safe.

Lil Phat was part of the Trill Entertainment family, which includes rappers Lil Boosie, Webbie, Foxx, Mouse, Lil Trill, KaDe and Shell. In November 2010, Lil Phat released Trill 4 Life with Webbie, according to HipHopDx.com.
