American skier Lindsey Vonn suffered a brutal injury on Tuesday in Schladming, Austria.

The Olympic gold-medal winner crashed while participating in the Super-G of the World Alpine Skiing Championship. She was unable to walk off on her own power, and had to be airlifted to the hospital.

Vonn reportedly suffered ACL and MCL tears to her right knee. The injury will keep her out for the rest of the season, according to the United States ski team. However, she is expected to be healthy for the 2013-14 World Cup season in October. Vonn should also be good to go for the 2014 Winter Olympics, despite undergoing reconstructive knee usrgery.

At 28 years old, Vonn has won the World Cup Championship four times. She is second on the all-time list.

After the crash, Vonn was in a tremendous amount of pain, and heard screaming while lying on the ground. The other skiers appeared to be in shock. Slovenian skier Tina Maze was shown covering her mouth as she saw Vonn fall.
