The audiotape of former MLB pitcher Kris Benson’s 911 call to authorities has surfaced, shedding further light on an incident that led to the arrest of his ex-wife, Anna Benson.
Anna Benson, who once starred in the short-lived reality television series “Baseball Wives,” was arrested Monday after committing an alleged home invasion, TMZ reported. Armed with a gun, “expandable metal baton,” and wearing a bulletproof vest, she allegedly held Kris at gunpoint and demanded $30,000.
According to a police report obtained by TMZ, Kris told Anna that he would get the money, but fled the scene and dialed 911 instead. On Monday, Anna was arrested on four criminal counts, including two counts of felony aggravated assault, one count of criminal trespass, and one count of possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.
In a tape of the 911 call obtained by TMZ, a calm, but noticeably concerned Kris Benson described the home invasion to an emergency operator. He describes Anna as his “soon-to-be ex-wife” who had “gotten into the house and is brandishing a gun.” Kris added that he didn’t think that Anna had been drinking before the incident. When the operator asked the former baseball player if his ex-wife had done anything similar in the past, he seemed to hesitate, saying, “No, but my uh …. no,” Deadspin notes.
The domestic dispute, which occurred on Sunday night, likely stems from the couple’s ongoing divorce. In 2012, Kris filed to divorce Anna after 14 years of marriage, obtaining a court order that forced her to vacate the family home.
In an email to Fox News last July, Anna Benson claimed that Kris only filed for divorce because she had discovered that he had been having an affair with one of her close friends. “She and Kris are both denying the affair, saying it was just ‘inappropriate talk,’” Benson told Fox News. “But I picked up his iPad and and I hit the Facebook button and looked at his inbox messages, and there were all of these sexy messages between them. And you just don’t talk with somebody like that that you’re not having sex with.”
As of Wednesday morning, Anna Benson remains in police custody, and is being held without bond, Deadspin reports. Listen to Kris Benson's 911 call below, courtesy of TMZ and Deadspin.
