Liverpool continue to lie dormant in this month’s transfer window, despite Brendan Rodgers’s assertions that he is continually looking to bolster his squad. And, while the Merseyside club have enjoyed a fine campaign to date, it is believed that Rodgers is looking to increase his attacking options.

The Reds have been most strongly linked with a move for highly rated Basel winger Mohamed Salah. At one stage, a deal for around £9 million was thought to have been agreed to take the Egypt international to Anfield. However, talk has since stalled with Basel’s asking price thought to have increased as competition for his signature has emerged from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Zenit St Petersburg.

With that in mind, Talksport has reported that Liverpool have turned their attention to Dynamo Kiev wide man Andriy Yarmolenko. Full of pace, direct and with an eye for goal, the 24-year-old has found the net eight times in 16 league games this season, while firing a further five in the Europa League. Since playing on home soil in Euro 2012, Yarmolenko has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League. TalkSport believes it would take around £15 million to take him to Anfield.

Another alternative to Salah is also doing the rounds. Metro reports that Liverpool are weighing up a £9 million offer for PSV Eindhoven’s Georginio Wijnaldum. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder, who can play on the right or in the middle, scored four goals in as many Eredivisie matches at the start of the season but has been out with a back injury since the middle of September. A Netherlands international, who came up through the ranks at Feyenoord, Wijnaldum could be tempted by a move given that PSV are currently languishing in seventh place in the Eredivisie.

Rodgers may also be looking at options to bring in a creative attacking midfielder to play through the middle. Liverpool missed out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Borussia Dortmund in the summer and have since been repeatedly linked since with a transfer for Sevilla’s Ivan Rakitic.

The Croatia international has previously made noises suggesting he was unsettled at the La Liga side following their selling off of many of their leading players, including Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas to Manchester City. Yet, despite also being linked with Manchester United, Rakitic now claims to be happy to stay with Sevilla and extend his contract, which is set to expire in 18 months’ time.

"Am I attracted to England? At this point about Sevilla I don't care about another country, about another club,” he said, according to Sky Sports.

“People know I'm happy in Sevilla, I'm really not under any pressure, my teammates and all coaches see that I give my all on the pitch.

"I'm enjoying football here, I really love life in this city, so it is a great honor that there are signs of a new contract and that the board is really ready to sign me for an even longer period. We'll see what happens."
