The convicted Lockerbie bomber, Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, is in hospital a Libyan official said, the Associated Press reported.

Al-Megrahi was on Monday described as a dying man by the Libyan Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Siala.

The Libyan citizen convicted of bombing Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988, killing 259 people on the plane and 11 on the ground was released on August 20 on compassionate grounds as doctors confirmed he was dying of prostate cancer.

Footage of the ill 57-year-old in a Tripoli hospital wearing an oxygen mask was aired on Sunday night by Britain's Channel 4.
