RTTNews - Monday, the British Retail Consortium or BRC said in a report that the London like-for-like retail sales increased 1.6% year-over-year in May, compared with an 8.5% increase in the year ago period.

This was the weakest retail sales growth in 2009, the BRC-KPMG report said.

In May, retail sales growth declined below the previous year's level because the weather was not sunny as last year.

Further, the report said, the favourable exchange rate continued to attract overseas visitors, especially those from Western Europe, but tourists were more cautious and tended to spend less.
