At least 21 people were injured, one critically when a Los Angeles Metro Expo Line train collided with two cars and partially derailed around 11 a.m., local time, KCBS, Los Angeles, reported. The most seriously injured person was trapped in a vehicle hit by the train and was rescued by first responders who had to cut the person out of the vehicle.

One person on the train was seriously hurt, while 19 sustained minor injuries. Two train cars derailed in the accident, but most people were seen walking off the train without injuries. Ten people were transported to a nearby hospital. The crash occurred on Exposition Boulevard near the University of Southern California. The Department of Transportation, the Metropolitan Transport Authority, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles Fire Department and USC were at the scene, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.

The last major train accident in the area was in late February when a Metrolink train derailed after hitting a tractor-trailer truck in Ventura County. The driver fled the scene but was taken into custody a short time later. The truck reportedly became stuck on the track. Fifty-one people were injured and 28 were transported to a hospital.
