Louis Tomlinson that his late mom, Johannah Deakin, wanted him to reconcile with his former band mate, Zayn Malik, prior to her death.

While speaking with The Sun on Friday, Tomlinson said that his mom urged him to reach out to Malik so they could patch things up. After all, life is very short. Deakin passed away in December at the age of 43 after being diagnosed with leukemia a year earlier. “A mother’s intuition is just crazy. It always felt supernatural to me. My mom always knew what I was feeling and what I needed,” he said.

According to People, Malik announced his departure from One Direction in 2015 after five years of being with the group. At that time, Malik also spoke negatively about One Direction and called their music “generic.” While speaking with Fader in December 2015 (via People), Malik explained that he had a hard time incorporating his unique spin on their songs.

“If I would sing a hook or a verse slightly R&B, or slightly myself, it would always be recorded 50 times until there was a straight version that was pop, generic as [hell], so they could use that version. Whenever I would suggest something, it was like it didn’t fit us,” he said.

Following his exit, Malik and Tomlinson also got into a Twitter fight with each other. On May 2015, music producer Naughty Boy, who was working with Malik at that time, threw shade at Tomlinson after watching one of his Instagram videos. In the clip, Tomlinson hinted on the possibility that Malik will be replaced. After a few exchanges, Malik came to Naughty Boy’s defense and fired back at Tomlinson.

But at present, Tomlinson wants to put the spat behind him. “I can’t stand to hold a grudge with anyone. It doesn’t sit with me right. If there is any animosity, just clear the air,” he said. The 25-year-old also shared that he and Malik already had the chance to talk. “I can’t speak on behalf of him but we really care about each other. I could always the break the rules a bit with Zayn… It was brotherly love,” he concluded.
