Multiple news outlets are reporting a Louisiana shooting on Thursday morning. According to reports two police officers were killed and two others were wounded in what state police are calling an ambush.

The shooting occurred in St. John the Baptist Parish in LaPlace, La., which is an incorporated city on the east bank of the Mississippi river.

The Associated Press reports that the shooting occurred around 5:30 a.m. in a parking lot used by workers in an area of manufacturing plants and refineries along the river.

The four St. Johns Baptist Parish deputies involved in the shooting were apparently shot as they were directing traffic outside the Bayou Steel Plant in LaPlace, Louisiana, State Police Sgt. Ann Dusang told CNN.

"They were ambushed," Dusang said. "Two have been killed and two hospitalized."

A search is currently under way for the gunman, Dusang added
