RTTNews - A weak open is expected Wednesday for Japan's stock market, off of another negative lead from Wall Street overnight.

Japan stocks suffered a broad sell-off on Tuesday.

The Nikkei 225 Average fell 286.79 points or 2.86 percent to 9,752.88.

Of the Nikkei component stocks, there were 12 finishing the session higher, 212 were lower and 1 was unchanged.

The broader Topix Index was down 32.06 points or 3.4 percent at 914.76.

Companies doing a large portion of their business with the United States were hard hit.

The auto sector was among them. Honda Motors was down 115 yen or 4.11 percent, Subaru maker Fuji Heavy dropped 21 yen or 5.36 percent, Mazda declined 14 yen or 5.05 percent and Toyota was down 130 yen or 3.39 percent.

Among the electronics firms, Sony was down 80 yen or 3.04 percent, Pioneer was down 23 yen or 7.10 percent, Sanyo Electric fell 12 yen or 4.69 percent and Canon was down 90 yen or 2.71 percent.

For the big banks, Mitsubishi UFJ was down 30 yen or 4.75 percent, Mizuho Financial fell 13 yen or 5.00 percent, Sumitomo Mitsui was down 80 yen or 1.98 percent and Resona Holdings dropped 58 yen or 4.02 percent.

In the resources/energy sector, Nippon Oil sunk 39 yen or 6.49 percent while Inpex was down 30,000 yen or 3.78 percent.

Overseas, fears that the economic recovery might not occur as soon as was hoped sent Wall Street lower again on Tuesday.

At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 107.46 points or 1.25 percent at 8.504.67, the Nasdaq Composite index was down 20.20 points or 1.11 percent at 1,796.18 and the Standard & Poor's 500 index was lower by 11.75 points or 1.27 percent at 911.97.

Most of the major market indices in the Asia/Pacific region finished lower on Tuesday.

The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was down 333.46 points or 1.80 percent at 18.165.50.

China's Shanghai Composite index fell 13.53 points or 0.48 percent to 2,776.02.

In India, the BSE 30 index was up 82.39 points or 0.55 percent at 14,957.91.

Indonesia's Jakarta Composite index declined 39.51 points or 1.91 percent to 2.030.37.

The KOSPI/Seoul Composite index in South Korea declined 13.29 points or 0.94 percent to 1,399.15.

The Taiwan Weighted Index dropped 3.75 points or 0.08 percent to 6.220.81.

On Wednesday's economic data calendar, the Bank of Japan is scheduled to publish its monthly report. The BoJ also will hold a 20-year government bond auction.
