Affiliates of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (FRA:BMW) and the privately held Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. will recall almost 16,000 vehicles built and sold in China because of air-bag and gear-box issues, according to the country’s official Xinhua News Agency.

Beginning Aug. 25, BMW and its BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. joint venture with the privately held HuaChen Group Auto Holding Co. Ltd. will recall 15,474 of the 3-series cars because of defects in their air bags. They could malfunction in humid environments, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said.

Starting July 30, Aston Martin Lagonda will recall 317 cars due to defective gear boxes that could lead to a loss of power in certain DB9, Virage Coupe and Virage S models.

The luxury-car manufacturers will replace the relevant parts free of charge in both cases, Xinhua said.
