While stocks showed a notable decline at the open, selling pressure has remained somewhat subdued over the course of the first half-hour of trading on Tuesday. The major averages have moved firmly into negative territory but are holding onto the bulk of yesterday's standout gains.

Nonetheless, resource stocks are seeing notable weakness amid a decrease in commodities prices, with gold stocks posting particularly steep losses. Banking, trucking, and real estate stocks are also giving back some ground following recent strength.

The major averages are currently lingering well below the unchanged line, but well off their worst levels of the day. The Dow is currently down 55.68 at 7,720.18, the Nasdaq is down 16.90 at 1,538.87 and the S&P 500 is down 7.87 at 815.05.
