Stocks showed a notable decline at the start of trading on Monday, with the major averages giving back some ground after closing higher in the four previous sessions. The initial weakness came as traders cashed in on the recent gains.

Banking stocks are helping to lead the way lower following some negative analyst comments regarding the outlook for the sector. Some computer hardware, metal, oil service, and semiconductor stocks are also posting notable losses.

In the past few minutes, the major averages have edged up off their lows for the young session, although they remain firmly negative. The Dow is currently down 70.81 at 7,946.78, the Nasdaq is down 26.04 at 1,595.83 and the S&P 500 is down 11.13 at 831.37.
