Industrial production in Malaysia declined 14.4% year-on-year in March, slower than a revised 14.6% drop in February, the Department of Statistics said Monday. Economists expected a fall of 15%. Industrial output has now fallen for the seventh consecutive month in March.

On an annual basis, manufacturing output fell 19.6%, while mining output slipped 3.2%. Production of electricity was down 8.9% in March.

Month-on-month, industrial output increased 6.2% in March, reversing the decline of the past seven months. In February, the output was down 3.6%.

In the first quarter, industrial output declined 16.3% compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
