The Malaysian ringgit showed strength against the US dollar during early deals on Wednesday. At 11:05 pm ET, the ringgit reached a high of 3.6365 against the dollar, compared to 3.6280 hit late New York Tuesday. The dollar-ringgit pair is currently trading at 3.6330 with 3.60 seen as the next target level.

Malaysia's leading index, a measure of economic performance in the next few months, declined 0.4% in January to 157.3 points, a report by the Department of Statistics said today. The six-month smoothed growth rate decreased further to minus 3.6% in January from minus 3% in December.
