A Long Island, New York, man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly bit his parent's dog, a shih tzu, on the head so severely that the dog’s right eye came out. He was identified as Aaron Kluger, 20, a resident of Port Washington in Nassau County, New York. According to a report in the Daily Mail, Kluger was charged with torturing and injuring an animal, a misdemeanor offense.

The news was confirmed by Nassau County’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Gary Rogers from SPCA told television network, CBS Local New York he never heard of a case like this before.

“I don’t like to say I’ve seen it all because I just haven’t. Every time I think that we just see something new that we shake our heads at,” he said.

According to the SPCA, the investigation into the case first began Nov. 9 when the 3-year-old dog, named Chloe, was brought to an animal hospital with a serious eye injury. A veterinarian later confirmed that Chloe’s right eye was bitten out.

“The eye was popped out of the dog’s socket, according to the veterinarian,” Rogers added.

Following an investigation, Kluger was arrested Saturday after authorities obtained information from a family friend. Rogers added that authorities haven't got any clue yet about the motive for the crime.

“We don’t know why and how he did it. He said he was playing with the dog and it may have happened, but other people were able to tell us that he was the one who bit the dog’s eye out,” he said.

According to latest reports, the dog's eye was reattached. Doctors claim that Chloe could also get her vision back in the future.

“As long as it gets care and gets rest and doesn’t have any other trauma, they’re hopeful that the eye will stay in and that it will have most of its vision back,” Rogers said.

Kluger is set to appear in court in January 2018 for trial.

In a similar incident of animal cruelty, a disturbing video was posted on Snapchat on Saturday showing a teenager throwing a kitten across the street. The California police department was on the lookout for the unnamed boy, believed to be 16 years old.

The 10-second video, which went viral and sparked social media outrage was shot in Ontario, California. The video showed Charlie, which is the boy's username on Snapchat, lifting the animal with both hands, then flinging it high into the air. The kitten can then be seen hitting the ground.

According to a press release by the police department, “The kitten survived the incident but did suffer an injured leg. The Inland Valley Human Society is assisting with the investigation and the care of the injured animal.”
