Shares in German truckmaker MAN rose more than 4 percent on Thursday on market talk that carmaker Volkswagen could make a bid for the company, several dealers in Frankfurt said.

Volumes in MAN stock were 1.09 million shares by 08:47 GMT (9:47 a.m. British time) compared to the 1.3 million 90 day full day average.

There's talk going around that VW wants to buy MAN, said one trader.

Another dealer said there was talk of a three way merger comprising Volkwagen's Brazilian truck operations, MAN and Sweden's Scania, for which MAN has bid.

No immediate comment was available from Volkswagen.
