There has long been talk that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was keen on recruiting the Bosnian. After Stoke signed Jack Butland from Birmingham on transfer deadline day and then loaned the young goalkeeper back for the rest of the season, reports have mounted that Begovic will be on his way in the summer.
The Sunday People has boldly stated that the 25-year-old will sign for United in a £9 million deal, while sister paper the Daily Mirror asserts that Stoke will demand £15 million for the player who joined them from Portsmouth in 2010.
It has been widely reported of late that Ferguson is losing faith in current United goalkeeper David De Gea with the young Spaniard enduring criticism for some high-profile errors. Ferguson, though, has continued to publicly support the 22-year-old and the People states that De Gea will likely be retained even if Begovic joins.
It is believed that United may be willing to sell if Barcelona follow up their reported interest with a bid that matches the £17 million the Premier League leaders paid Atletico Madrid for De Gea in the summer of 2011. If that doesn’t happen then the People claims that it would mean that current United second-choice goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard will be allowed to leave.
There has also been further talk about another Manchester United target, Angelo Ogbonna. The Torino center back is believed to be on Ferguson’s radar as a potential replacement for Rio Ferdinand, whose contract is set to expire in the summer.
Ogbonna, 24, is a regular in the Italy squad on the back of consistently impressive performances for Torino. The Serie A side have revealed that several clubs have expressed an interest in Ogbonna, with a decision to be taken on his future at the end of the season.
"A lot of clubs are still very interested in Ogbonna,” Torino chairman Urbano Cairo told Tuttosport.
"In June we'll sit down and evaluate together what to do next. Maybe he'll have a desire to stay here for a bit longer."
United are also interested in young Real Madrid left-back Adrian Castellano, reports the Sunday People. The 18-year-old has yet to make a first team appearance for the Spanish giants yet is also said to be on the radar of Manchester City.
According to Metro, United may be set to battle it out with a Premier League rival for another of their targets, Alain Traore. The Lorient forward is said to have been the subject of a bid from Arsenal in the January transfer window, but the move fell through when Traore suffered an injury while at the African Cup of Nations with Burkina Faso.
United are thought to have scouted the 25-year-old since his move from Auxerre last summer. Traore, who Lorient reportedly value at £5 million, has scored six goals in 13 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
