Manuel Neuer provided a further example of why he’s regarded as the world’s premier goalkeeper with a scarcely believable save to deny Theo Walcott in Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Germany No. 1 looked to have been beaten as Walcott met a cross from Nacho Monreal just six yards out in the middle of goal. Everyone appeared to think the net was ready to bulge, including Walcott who was already running off to celebrate before looking back in disbelief as Neuer somehow stretched out his left hand to claw it away.

The moment was the highlight of the first half which ended goalless but featured plenty of enterprising play from both sides. Bayern, who came into the fixture with a maximum six points in the group so far, dominated possession, but struggled to find a way through. Arsenal, meanwhile, desperately searching for a positive result after losing their opening two matches, gradually began to pose a threat on the counter attack.

Neuer also had saved a shot from compatriot Mesut Ozil, while Alexis Sanchez blasted a presentable chance over the crossbar.
