As if you need another reason to play more “Mario Kart 8.” On Aug. 27, the Japanese version of Nintendo’s racer will be updated with a number of new content and features, including new vehicles.

The update, which will contain three different cars from German car manufacturer Mercedes Benz, was announced before “Mario Kart 8” launched on May 30. The included vehicles are the 2014 GLA SUV, 1934 W25 Silver Arrow and 1957 300 SL Roadster. Once the cars launch, a month-long competition called the Mercedes Cup will follow.

In late June, Nintendo of America confirmed the same downloadable content would reach American players via Twitter. No release date for the DLC has been confirmed.

On May 30, Nintendo released the highly-anticipated “Mario Kart 8,” which became the Wii U’s fastest-selling game at 1.2 million units sold worldwide within 14 days. The game’s launch also increased console sales in May of 2014 more than 90 percent over May of last year.

In June “Mario Kart 8” moved more than 870,000 copies in the United States alone and was the best-selling game on a single platform.

On June 2, U.K. market research and media sale monitoring company GFK Chart-Track said the game had boosted Wii U sales by 666 percent, with 82 percent of that coming from the “Mario Kart 8” bundle.

The eighth main installment in the series even boosted Wii U console sales more than first-person shooter “Titanfall” helped Xbox One sales following its release in March and more than action-adventure game “inFAMOUS: Second Son” increased PlayStation 4 sales after its March 21 release date.
