U.S. stocks ended lower on Monday as financial shares fell on renewed concerns about the impact of the housing slump, while data showing a manufacturing slowdown renewed worries about the profit outlook.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 57.15 points, or 0.43 percent, to end unofficially at 13,314.57.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 8.72 points, or 0.59 percent, to finish unofficially at 1,472.42.

The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 23.83 points, or 0.90 percent, to close unofficially at 2,637.13.
