Market off on Goldman, chipmakers slide
U.S. stocks fell on Monday as concerns about fraud charges against Goldman Sachs continued to weigh on the market, overshadowing positive news from Citigroup earnings and upbeat economic data.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite briefly dropped more than 1 percent, with the PHLX semiconductor index <.SOXX> down more than 2.5 percent.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 19.95 points, or 0.18 percent, to 10,998.71. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> slid 5.70 points, or 0.48 percent, to 1,186.43. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 23.03 points, or 0.93 percent, to 2,458.23.
