Usd/maj. - U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said that he will submit to Congress legislative language on a new consumer protection agency in the next few days and is working on other proposals that use existing regulatory authorities. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told U.S. house panel as crisis ends Fed will withdraw all of its nonstandard policy programs. Bernanke said Fed has maintained very strong independence on monetary policy which is critical. U.S. dollar pared early gains against European ccys after their comments as U.S. stock markets rallied (Dow Jones index rose by 146 points to 8446).
