The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> edged up 6.96 points, or 0.06 percent, at 12,645.70. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 0.69 point, or 0.05 percent, at 1,340.89. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 0.89 point, or 0.03 percent, at 2,828.45.
