This week on “MasterChef,” the nine remaining home cooks battle it out in a flambé challenge. The episode is titled “A Little Southern Flare,” and the contestants will all encounter some flames to avoid the pressure test.

The nine lucky home cooks still in the competition for Season 6 of “MasterChef” U.S. are in for a treat this week. In a video clip shared by FOX, all three judges could be seen doing a live demonstration right in the MasterChef Kitchen. Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot and Christina Tosi will each show off their flambé skills by making three very different dishes. [Scroll down for video]

Tosi uses a cognac to flambé her beef stroganoff. Meanwhile, Elliott cooks some mussels with anise liqueur. Ramsay chooses to take the dessert out of Tosi’s hands. He makes some shortbread and caramelized peaches cooked with calvados, a kind of French apple brandy.

The contestants are visibly impressed and quite intimidated since they will also have to bring out their flambé skills. In another clip, Ramsay visits Tommy’s station. The flamboyant designer admits he likes to bring in some drama, and a little flare puts him in his element. He is going back to his roots by making a classic Louisiana dish called bananas foster and he’s confident he will excel.

Over at Stephen’s station, he is making a little garden on a plate. He is making seabass wrapped in leeks, cooked with some anise liqueur. The dish is paired with vegetables like asparagus and Brussels sprouts. He admits he is looking at Derrick as his biggest competitor.

At this point in the competition, there are only nine cooks left and the battle is getting tighter. Apart from Tommy, Stephen and Derrick, the other competitors are Shelly, Olivia, Hetal, Nick, Claudia and Katrina.

According to TV.com, whoever wins the flambé challenge will have an advantage in the pressure test. The winner will get the chance to choose which Southern dish will be cooked in the elimination round.

Find out who will go home when “MasterChef” Season 6 episode 13 “A Little Southern Flare” airs on Wednesday, Aug. 5. The show airs at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
