MedPro Safety Products, Inc., a company that engages in developing, acquiring, and selling medical device safety products incorporating needlestick prevention technologies in the U.S. and internationally, has announced that it has received a CE Mark from the British Standards Institute (BSI) for its products for blood collection safety. The CE Mark enables the free movement of products within the European Union.
“The CE Mark is another important milestone for MedPro, allowing for the expansion of sales of the VACUETTE® blood collection devices into large and growing markets in Europe,” said Craig Turner, Chairman and CEO of MedPro Safety Products. “We believe our patented passive needlestick technology is a compelling feature that will be well received by healthcare professionals in Europe as it has been in the United States. The CE Mark, along with the 510(K) clearance that we received from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last year, has positioned us well to grow our presence globally.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that globally, approximately 3 million healthcare employees, which is about 10% of the worldwide industry’s workforce, are exposed to bloodborne pathogens resulting from needlestick injuries every year.
MedPro Safety’s products are based upon patented technology that provides healthcare professionals the safety of sample collection through a truly passive needlestick prevention mechanism that automatically activates with normal use, without the need for any additional steps by the user. The VACUETTE® PREMIUM Safety Needle System Tube-Touch features a shield that automatically covers the needle during the process of blood collecting.
The devices are manufactured, marketed, and deployed worldwide by Greiner Bio-One, an international manufacturer and supplier for pre-analytic products and medical devices. The VACUETTE® PREMIUM Safety Needle System Tube-Touch was officially released into the U.S. market in April.
