Beauty pageant history was made Sunday night when Nia Sanchez was crowned Miss USA 2014. It was the first time a woman from Nevada won the title. After she beat 50 beautiful contestants from around the nation, people have been scrambling to find out more information about this year’s winner.
Even though this Miss USA pageant has been around since 1952, no one from the state of Nevada has claimed the crown before. Last year’s winner, Erin Brady, represented from Connecticut, and 2012’s winner Olivia Culpo, who ultimately won Miss Universe, hailed from Rhode Island.
She’s a real-life princess:
Many love to watch the competitions because the winners look like real-life princesses, but according to E! Online she is a real life princess -- a Disney princess! Sanchez worked as a variety of face characters at Hong Kong Disney, including Cinderella, Princess Aurora, Belle and Snow White.
She’s wasn’t born in Nevada:
Even though she's made Nevada proud, Sanchez isn’t a native. The beauty queen was born in California and lived there until she was seven.
Things weren’t always easy for her:
E! Online reports that Sanchez hasn't always had it easy. When she lived in California with her mother, they stayed in a women’s shelter for two months before a relative took them in. Now, she volunteers at a women’s shelter in Las Vegas.
She knows taekwondo:
Even if Sanchez might look like a dainty princess, the brunette beauty would most likely be able to hold her own in a fight. She has a fourth-degree black belt in taekwondo.
Sanchez has said she looks forward to getting married and having children in the future and it might not be that far away. She and actor boyfriend Daniel Booko are a pretty cute couple.
