Meghan Markle previously revealed that she volunteered at a soup kitchen in a Los Angeles Skid Row.

Markle shared details about her experience in “The Game Changers” book earlier this year, and her story was revived by The Sun recently.

“I started working at a soup kitchen in Skid Row of Los Angeles when I was 13 years old, and the first day I felt really scared. I was young, and it was rough and raw down there and, though I was with a great volunteer group, I just felt overwhelmed,” she said.

Luckily for the “Suits” alum, she remembered what one of her mentors told her previously. “‘Life is about putting others’ needs above your own fears.’ That has always stayed with me,” she said.

Another person who has inspired Markle to do wonderful things is her mom, Doria Ragland. During her interview with Glamour, Markle dished on the kind of relationship she shares with her mom.

“We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I’ll still find so much solace in her support. The duality coexists the same way it would in a best friend,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ragland and her ex-husband, Thomas Markle, were the first two people from the actress’ immediate family to release a statement following her engagement to Prince Harry. And it was no surprise that they allowed the prince to propose to Markle.

Ragland and Thomas’ official statement was released online via the Kensington Palace’s Twitter account. “We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future,” they said in the statement.

Markle and Prince Harry are expected to tie the knot on May 19, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Ragland and Thomas are expected to attend their union along with approximately 800 other guests.
