Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly planning to spend Christmas with the royals and celebrate the season as a family, according to an insider.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are already based in the United States after stepping back from their royal duties earlier this year. But they are considering spending Christmas in the U.K. with the royal family.

"There’s a lot of tradition surrounding the holidays with his family, and they both have really loved that in the past," a source told Us Weekly.

"With the uncertainty of COVID, they have been taking it one day at a time and are hopeful that they can all go back together and spend it as a family."

However, the COVID-19 pandemic might affect the royal couple's plans because they will likely have to quarantine themselves for two weeks before they could reunite with the royal family.

"Time will tell if that will need to happen and if it could potentially impact what they do and when, but they are all eager to get back to spend time with Harry’s family and for Archie to see his great-grandmother [Queen Elizabeth II] and great-grandfather [Prince Philip] in particular," the source added.

Prince Harry and Markle remain in touch with the royals after they moved to the U.S. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been using modern technology to communicate with the Queen and the other royal family members, according to the source.

"They have so much fun over Zoom, and they have bonded through Zoom calls. Harry is so close with his grandmother, and he is excited to get Archie back [to London] so that they can see her," the insider added.

Last month, Prince Harry shared that he would have returned to the U.K. if the coronavirus pandemic didn’t happen. The royal prince also admitted at the time that he has plans to return home.

"We’ve got a whole rugby league World Cup coming next year," Prince Harry said. "I definitely plan on coming back. I would have been back already had it not been for COVID."
