Rumors have been circulating the Internet for weeks now, but Monday morning Meredith Vieira officially confirmed the news that she is planning to leave the Today show.

Vieira announced she is leaving her post as co-host of the Today show in June. She called the show her second home. The reason she is leaving is to spend more time with her family.

Vieira told viewers,

After months of personal reflection and private conversations between my family and friends, I've decided to leave 'Today' in June.

She said she is leaving, after five years as co-host to spend more time with her three children and her husband who has multiple sclerosis.

We all feel blessed to have spent the past five years with you. Meredith is universally adored. We will miss you like crazy, said Vieira's co-host, Matt Lauer.

Ann Curry has been chosen to fill in for Vieira. Curry called Vieira a gift to this broadcast. She also said that she feels like the high school computer nerd who was just asked to the prom by the quarterback of the football team.
