Meryl Streep won Best Actress in a Lead Role at the 84th annual Academy Awards for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. It was her third Oscar after 17 nominations.

I could hear half of America going 'Oh, no,' Streep said after her name was announced for the win. Not her again.

But, you know, she added, laughing. Whatever.

Meryl Streep's role as the former British prime minister produced an extraordinary performance, but the actress had a lot of competition this year. Up against her were Glenn Close (for Albert Nobbs), Viola Davis (The Help), Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn) and Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo).
